Aston Villa continue to invest in young African talent
Aston Villa are reinforcing their global youth development strategy with the signing of Ibrahim Dosso, a 16-year-old forward from ASEC Mimosas, one of the most historic clubs in Ivory Coast.
The youngster is regarded as one of Africa’s most promising prospects and is expected to officially join the Premier League side in January 2027, once he turns 18.
According to The Athletic, the move stems from the strong link between Villa and ASEC Mimosas through the V Sports group, which owns the Birmingham-based club and holds a minority stake in the Ivorian team.
This partnership has been instrumental in providing a structured pathway for young African talents to reach the Premier League with proper support and professional guidance.
Partnership already bearing fruit
The case of Ibrahim Dosso is not the first success story from this collaboration. In 2025, midfielder Mohamed Koné, also from ASEC Mimosas, joined the Aston Villa setup and has been closely monitored by Unai Emery’s coaching staff.
Following a similar plan, Dosso will continue his development at ASEC until he reaches the minimum age for an international transfer.
Villa’s scouting department believes the striker has the potential to become a key player in the future, highlighting his pace, strength, and finishing ability as standout qualities.
City win highlights Villa’s strong form
The news of Dosso’s signing comes shortly after Aston Villa’s 1–0 victory over Manchester City in the Premier League last weekend.
Emery’s side once again demonstrated tactical consistency and defensive solidity, controlling one of the league’s toughest opponents and extending their impressive run of form.
The result also marked another match without a goal for Erling Haaland, who has not scored since August 23, when City lost 2–0 to Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium.
Eyes on the future
With the upcoming arrival of Ibrahim Dosso, Aston Villa reaffirm their commitment to building a long-term, sustainable squad structure.
The club’s board remains focused on combining investment in youth with a competitive and experienced core, ensuring Villa stay among the top contenders in the Premier League for years to come
